Location was decent. The beds don’t get properly changed. I watched the cleaning lady take the pillow case off and replace that. The duvet and the mattress sheet don’t get changed. You are given a sheet but you have to pick between using it to cover the mattress or for between you and the duvet. For the cheapest hostel is was actually okay. Common area was large, and kept tidy, very dated but is a nice place to sit. The kitchen is kept well and organised. Receptions were nice and helpful. Bathrooms are a bit questionable but it’s old so sort of expected.

Came for two nights but stayed almost a week! Reviews ring true, it’s a fairly antisocial hostel and pretty run down, but I’m giving 5 stars because I enjoyed my stay and will book here again if I’m passing thru Wellington. I liked that it’s reliably quiet here, no parties or loud talking outside your room. It was a cheap place to stay with all the needed amenities!

Closest Hotel to the Interislander Ferry, bus and train station. The front-desk and cleaning staff are nice and friendly. I stayed in a Single Ensuit Room (most affordable hotel for this type of room) and the experience was lovely. You get provided towels, drink sachets and sugar with this type of room. No toiletries provided though, only liquid soap. The room consists of a small desk & chair, single bed (not the comfiest, but good enough) bedside shelf, microwave, heater, and kettle. The cleanliness was good, the only complaint would be some green mold on the bottom of the shower door, but good otherwise. Noise wise, my room neighbours were nice and quiet, but the city traffic can be quite loud (although you can solve it by closing the window). The kitchen is very big and has most necessary utensils and pots (no can opener though). The lounge looked nice but was smelly. Overall, I would recommend this specific type of room in this hotel, and would stay again.

The location was great. Very easy to get to a lot of places. And the train, and bus station. Perfect location if you just want to walk around and see what you can find. Parliament is right close by, cable car is walking distance and then you can catch a shuttle to Zealandia. Walking distance to sky stadium. Walking distance to Te Papa museum and the waterfront. Shops and supermarkets also in close proximity. As for the accommodation itself, The main dining room was always smelly. The bathroom in the bunk room had a leaky shower which made the floor soaking wet and slippery. It was a closed off shower (meant to be). The ventilation in the bathroom was a small window. There’s nowhere to put your personal belongings when using the facilities, other than the floor which ends up drenched. The water temperature was only burning hot, no cold or warm. Felt like unsafe standards. The sink also only did hot water. You have to hire towels if you didn’t bring your own. Which was not mentioned before arrival. There was one bath mat for a 6 person room. And it was soaked. No hand towel either. There was also no toilet paper or spare rolls easy to access. The bunk was wobbly and unstable. The mattress was so thin you could feel the bed wires underneath. The pillow was pointless as well, very thin. The room felt unclean also. Reception was rude and made me feel like I wasn’t worth their time when I approached with questions. There was another bathroom down the corridor from my bunk room, but it was in worse state than the one in the bunk room. Neither felt usable. The bunk room was small and very limited space for personal belongings. Wouldn’t recommend if you are going to stay as a family, or even solo as it just doesn’t feel welcoming or clean. I traveled solo and was there for a number of days, and no one spoke to me directly. So wouldn’t recommend if you are tying to meet new people. Just doesn’t give a friendly vibe at all.

If you drop off from bus, this backpackers is the closest place to stay. 3 mins to walk. And they have big new fancy(compared to the facilities n building) locker room instead of free luggage room. Which can be good or bad. 😀 i had nothing much to complain, honesty had good single night stay.
